2010 NKBA Design Competition - Master Bathroom: Third Place
This master bathroom is found in a 100-year-old Dutch Colonial home. A refinished claw foot tub sets the historical tone for the room and is complimented by hexagonal floor tiles and white subway tiles trimmed with an espresso and milk chocolate-colored mosaic border. A large arch-framed mirror flanked by quaint arched cabinets with glass doors softens the more angular components of the room. The designer embraced rather than reproached the challenge of an angled wall symptomatic of the home's age by accommodating the pitch transition of the wall tile and shower walls, as well as by creating a focal point angle through the positioning of the tub and ledge above. The history and period architecture are beautifully preserved and celebrated in this luxurious space.
