2010 NKBA Design Competition - Medium Kitchen: Third Place

As a kitchen is created for newlyweds combining two households, the cumulative style reflects old-world charm. The pair enjoys collecting antiques from their world travels, and wanted these finds blended into a design, which would accommodate the old and new. The 100-year-old blue and white tile from Germany was framed by sections of black marble to form a backsplash for the cooktop and camouflage the vent. A large arched stained glass window from an 1800s-era church in England was split at a seam, making two panels for use in the doors that sit on either side of the cooker. Detailed moldings, wide windowsills, chandeliers, open dish storage, and a large dramatic mantel to show off collected items fuse timeless elegance and comfortable functionality.
