Classic Traditional Kitchen by James Howard
Classic Traditional Kitchen by James Howard
2010 NKBA Design Competition - Pinnacle of Design: First Place
With the warm, welcoming tones of a sprawling family kitchen, this design embraces those who enter to enjoy the almost contradictory view from the windows of a high-rise. A refined version of a rugged farmhouse kitchen was created through the use of copper, stone, and wood. A contemporary backlit onyx upper bar top, which overlooks the breakfast area, wraps around toward the living and dining areas, unifying the old and new qualities of the design. Pewter chicken wire inserts in cabinetry doors, rough hewn beams, an integrated refrigerator in the image of an old-time icebox, and a partial tin ceiling all contribute to the texture and overall environment.
