Color of the Week: Spring Green

http://www.decor-ideas.org 04/27/2015 22:13 Decor Ideas

Green is one of my favorite colors to decorate with because it’s so versatile. You can go soft and neutral with a silvery sage or get bold and tropical with a blue-tinged aqua. I’m currently using lots of spring greens in my clients’ homes. These are vibrant shades with a good dose of yellow in them. They bring in a fresh, crisp vibe, and you can dial the intensity up or down depending on how bold you want to go. I’ve gathered together paint colors, images and products featuring spring green to give you some ideas on how to bring one of nature’s happiest hues into your home.

Spring green is a fresh mix of yellow and green. Stick to light-to-medium shades for a jolt of color that still has a soft quality to it.

Here is an assortment of some of my favorite spring green paint colors, from left to right: Fresh Sprout from Kelly-Moore, Apples and Pears from Benjamin Moore, Athena from Mythic and Gleeful from Sherwin-Williams.

Contemporary Bathroom by NXG Studio
This travertine and green bathroom is so beautiful I almost didn’t notice the fantastic view out the window! Sticking to a palette of warm golds and yellow-greens gives an effect that’s colorful yet soothing. It’s a terrific backdrop to which you can easily add punches of more vibrant green, as was done here.

Shabby chic Living Room by Kootut murut
I love the use of color in this quirky space. Yellow, green and blue are analogous colors, meaning they reside next to one another on the color wheel. This gives them a harmonious feel when used together in a space. Combining different shades of two or three analogous hues is an easy way to bring in color without going overboard or clashing.

Eclectic Bedroom Eclectic Bedroom
I’m a huge fan of colorfully painted ceilings, and spring green is a great choice in a bedroom. It helps give the room a happy glow in the morning light. Keep the walls white so the ceiling color can take center stage, then add small accents of that color throughout the room to balance things out. This palette could go cooler with the addition of more grays and blues, or it could be made warmer with wood tones.

Eclectic Hall by Kathy Corbet Interiors
Stairways, hallways and other “just passing through” areas are often overlooked when we decorate our homes. They tend to be painted white or off-white, with maybe a mirror or some framed photos added, but that’s about it. I think these are the perfect spots for a fun hue such as spring green. If you’re color-shy, this can also be a clever way to inject a vibrant hue into your home. You probably don’t spend a lot of time in these spaces — unlike your bedroom or living room — so it’s easier to take a color risk and go bold.

Victorian Exterior by Anthony Crisafulli
Take a cue from the lush yellow-greens in your landscaping by painting the exterior of your home an herbaceous hue. Unlike a more neutral sage green, this is a rather bold choice for the exterior, so I think it works best when partnered with white or other clean and light neutrals for the trim and accent colors.

Give your shower a shot of color with spring green wall tiles. If your bathroom doesn’t get much natural light, go for a lighter shade that has a good amount of yellow in it. It will help keep the space sunny, light and bright.

Traditional Kitchen by Quality Custom Cabinetry, Inc
This elegant kitchen gets a nice splash of color with the soft spring green cabinets. The brown wood tones paired with the fresh green results in a pleasing, nature-inspired palette.

Modern Kitchen by Kerrie L. Kelly
Looking for a lower commitment of color in the kitchen? Go for a small accent wall of our featured color. It’s easy and affordable to change out if you start to crave something different down the road.

Think beyond paint when adding color to your home. Wallpaper is hot right now, and it comes in more patterns and hues than you can imagine. This spring green wallpaper warms up this charming dining area nicely.

Use color to draw attention to a statement piece of furniture. This yellow-green womb chair is the star of the show in this super-cool living room.

Contemporary Area Rugs by Loloi Inc.
Loloi Rugs, Jasper Shag, Green Glow, 7'9"x9'9" - $566.30Rugs are a quick and easy way to inject color in a room, no painting needed. Large area rugs are going to cost you quite a bit more than a gallon of paint, though, so make sure you like the color and style of the rug before committing. Check a store’s return policy too, as some will let you return the rug if you find it doesn’t work with your existing furnishings. If your room is being completely redecorated, including new paint on the walls, select a new rug first. It’s much easier to pick paint colors that work with your rug than vice versa.Buy

Vases by CB2
tampado green vase - $59.95If you’re drawn to our featured hue but not necessarily looking to add large expanses of it to your home, think about adding the color via decorative items such as vases, throw pillows and lamps. This color is showing up in everything these days, so if you’re a fan, now is the time to pick it up.

Chefs and foodies alike will tell you that white is the best color for dishware, since it lets the food take center stage without being thrown off, color-wise, by the bowl or plate on which it’s being served. That being said, I just love these soft green dishes from Ikea. I have these, as well as a set in white, that I mix together at the table. If a top chef should ever swing by my house for dinner, I’ll just tuck these in the back of the cabinet.

by Room & Board
Sabrina Chair - $129These chairs would look fantastic gathered around a rustic wood table. Or pair them with a sleek white table for a crisp, modern look.

Not only are these tiles green-hued, but they’re also green in the sense that they’re made from 100% recycled glass. I like the matte finish and soft edges, which give them a handmade and vintage vibe. They would look great in a bathroom, as the shower surround, or as the backsplash in a white or light-wood-clad kitchen.
