15 Farmhouse Kitchens That Made Us Swoon This Month

There’s just something about a farmhouse kitchen that gets people’s attention. And not in the way, say, a supermodern kitchen might turn your head. The raw materials, simplistic design and old-world vibe that farmhouse kitchens exude seem to have homeowners spending a bit more time staring, wondering and daydreaming of the quaint everyday life that these spaces foster.

With that in mind, we took a look at the farmhouse-style kitchens that professional builders, architects and designers uploaded this month and picked the 15 that held our gaze the longest. Just try not to stare too long.

1. The sunny spot at the farmhouse-style sink here would have us volunteering to do dishes any afternoon, but it’s the shiplap-walled breakfast nook with reclaimed-wood-base seating that would call us after the chore is over.

2. There’s so much old-world charm in this kitchen, it’s hard to know where to begin: those quaint little windows, the plaster-covered wood beams, and the way the flooring (which looks similar to California Gold slate) perfectly pulls all the tones together, for instance.

3. It might be tight, but there’s no chance of getting claustrophobic in this Cincinnati galley kitchen. There’s just too good of a vibe going on. The raw-brick wall, red trim paint and reddish stained floor (laid diagonally to give the appearance of more space) all contribute to its welcoming feeling.

4. Once you get past the daydreams of what you can do with all that island counter space in this Houston kitchen, you begin to fall equally in love with the built-in cabinetry and charming shiplap backing.

5. A clean dose of Linen White paint by Benjamin Moore does something magical to the sunlight streaming down from above here.

6. Unstained wood plank boards give the feeling of a floor that’s almost nonexistent. That gives the pale teal island and cabinetry prominence and lets the crisscrossed ceiling beams draw the eye to a graphic architectural trick. Plus, having a stone fireplace in a kitchen is just awesome.

7. It’s all about varying wood tones in this Moscow summer home. Whitewashed logs form the walls, creating a stunning backdrop for a whitewashed wood-paneled range hood, painted wood cabinetry and hutch, and a dining setup that includes a wood table and chairs all with different stains.

8. Only in France would you find something this authentically charismatic. The raw stone floors, trough-style sink, worn tile backsplash and distressed dining table and chairs could have all been expertly reproduced — but it’s doubtful.

9. It’s hard to compete with that rolling Columbus, Ohio, view out the window, but the wood-framed ceiling treatment does a good job of pulling the eye up. Meanwhile, the 6-inch hand-scraped cherry floors with a merlot stain would have anyone craning a neck downward.

11. The experience in this Boston kitchen begins high up with the two wood-framed windows that capture treetop views and only gets better as your eye travels down the clapboard siding wall, over the wood beam and beige wall, onto the soapstone countertops and Shaker cabinets, culminating on the oak flooring.

12. There’s a lot to love about this Alabama kitchen — the worn and raw ceiling beams, the quaint sitting area, the rich and dark wood island, and the voluminous space for getting things done.

13. It’s hard to imagine not being comfortable in this Boston kitchen. A lot of the relaxing vibe comes from custom color choices. The pale green cabinet color is close to Weekend Getaway, while the light cream color resembles Man on the Moon, both by Benjamin Moore.
