Houzz Call: Show Us Your Hardworking Home Office

Not all home offices are created equal. A desk and chair and file cabinet or two can do in a pinch. But when you work at home or spend a lot of time on your computer, you need an office space — it doesn’t have to be a whole room — that works hard to keep you organized and comfortable and on top of your technology.

Designers: Have you designed home offices that work hard for their owners? Is your own home office particularly smart? Share your pictures in the Comments section and tell us what makes the office work. We’d love to know how you incorporated ergonomics and technology into the design.

Homeowners: Do you have a home office that helps you get down to business? Share your pictures in the Comments section and tell us how you use it and why it works for you!

Contemporary Home Office by BOXWOOD ARCHITECTS
Built-in comfort. This Toronto condo office, by Boxwood Architects and Jill Greaves Design, is clean and comfortable with a slim desk, an Eames adjustable chair, an abundance of custom cabinets and bookshelves, and a cushy chaise for reading or relaxing. And then there’s that view. The Scandinavian-style room, about 8 by 15 feet, makes good use of its narrow dimensions.

Is your home office designed to be comfortable, clean and clutter free? Post your pictures and tell us how you did it.

Traditional Home Office by Farinelli Construction Inc
A place for everything. Don’t let the homey good looks of this office space, by Pennsylvania’s Farinelli Construction, fool you. It’s a pretty room, but it’s very hardworking too. Custom painted cubbies and cabinets offer open and closed storage in many shapes and sizes, and the laminate countertop is roomy. A large bulletin board keeps inspiration close at hand.

Do you have a cozy home office with lots of great storage and workspace? Share your pictures and tell us about it.

Contemporary Home Office by Ruth Livingston Studio
All business. This contemporary Menlo Park, California, home office — by Ruth Livingston Studio — has a streamlined design that means business. The large desk with return (the owner’s old wood desk, custom lacquered) offers lots of room for spreading out. Against the back wall, custom-made upper cabinets with open display space and floating lower file cabinets allow for plenty of storage. Monorail lighting illuminates the work area, an Aeron chair provides ergonomic seating, and there’s room for a guest.

Do you have a serious workspace to share? Post your pictures and tell us how it works for you.
