The people have spoken. Or in the case of the Best of Houzz awards, the people have clicked. We recently counted how many times the more than 25 million monthly Houzz users clicked to add a photo to an ideabook in 2014. The professionals with the most popular of those photos — the most added to user ideabooks — earned a Best of Houzz 2015 badge that they can display on their profile pages. If you see a badge on a professional’s profile page (see the example below), that means one of his or her designs generated a lot of buzz in the Houzz community last year.
In addition to design badges, professionals earned badges for customer service, determined by a variety of factors, including the amount and quality of client reviews received in 2014.
The badges were awarded in numerous categories throughout cities in the U.S. and Canada. The kitchen storage photo seen here earned Pennville Custom Cabinetry a Best of Houzz design badge and was one of the most popular photos added to ideabooks in all of the U.S. for 2014.

Unique ceiling molding with corresponding wallpaper, a swinging rattan chair and bright, playful bedding defined one of the most popular kids’ spaces in Minneapolis last year, and earned Great Neighborhood Homes a badge.
It’s the Sussex Green paint by Benjamin Moore on custom cabinetry and beadboard that no doubt helped earn Doreen Schweitzer Interiors a badge for this popular Chicago laundry room.
Meanwhile, this space was the most popular overall entryway in the U.S. last year.
The winners were chosen by city and space, which makes for an interesting sociological looking glass. For example, you can see which kitchen styles were popular in Atlanta (like the one shown here) compared with those in Portland.
But things like smart storage are universal. And while you’ll see a lot of fresh, new spaces among the most popular photos of last year, like the Seattle kitchen shown here, you’ll also see a lot of spaces that have earned multiple badges over the years — which is a somewhat poignant statement on the power of good design. It doesn’t matter when something was created; good design will always have the ability to gain new fans time and time again.
Here’s an example showing where you can find the Best of Houzz badges on a professional’s profile page. Badges for professionals outside the U.S. will be announced in the coming weeks.
So what’s the best way to get in the running for a Best of Houzz badge next year? Upload high-quality, well-composed photographs of your design work and get reviewed by as many of your clients as you can.
If you don’t have photos of your work, you can use the recently launched the Houzz Photographer Network to connect with more than 500 professional photographers in the U.S. and Canada who can shoot your projects.
