Are you one of those intrepid homeowners who have taken on a kitchen remodel themselves (or mostly themselves) and achieved stunning results? We want see your project and hear how you did it. We will be selecting a few kitchens to feature and will interview the homeowners about tips, tricks, materials, costs and those lesson-teaching mistakes made along the way.

Show us: Post photos and a few lines about your project in the Comments section below. Be sure to include a bit about what you did with your own hands and what you outsourced. Here are a few examples.

Transitional Kitchen by Angela Flournoy
Ilya and Arina Gurfinkel took on the remodel of their 1975 Dallas home, including the kitchen. The project had a steep learning curve and had them learning how to do everything from demolition to laying tile — all performed outside of their regular corporate jobs. Their best teachers: online video tutorials and hands-on experience.

Their kitchen was once separated from the dining room by a built-in console. That was the first thing to go. Arina sketched out a new floor plan that included an island, a larger range and a storage cabinet.

Things they outsourced include the making and installing of custom concrete countertops and the painting of cabinets. But they installed many key elements themselves, including the stainless steel backsplash behind the range.

Traditional Kitchen by Sarah Greenman
Camille Dickson is a teacher, designer, blogger and do-it-yourself remodeler. She and her husband, Kyle, redid almost every inch of their ranch house.

In the kitchen the couple redid the layout, replaced and repainted cabinets, laid new floors and installed new countertops. Their philosophy is simple: “I figure if someone else can do it for hire, we can do it for free,” Camille says.

Farmhouse Kitchen by Sara Bates
This kitchen was renovated for less than $20,000 by Denise Sabia. Her nephew built the undercounter cabinets, and she painted them. She also reimagined an old red wagon as a kitchen shelf (beside the white upper cabinets).

Contemporary Kitchen by The Sweetest Digs
Gemma Bonham-Carter, the blogger behind The Sweetest Digs, staged a cosmetic redo of her kitchen by repainting the cabinets, replacing the hardware and installing simple vinyl tile in a bold graphic stripe pattern.

“With a tight budget, we try to do a lot ourselves, often buying things ‘preloved.’ I have to be OK with slow and steady progress,” says Bonham-Carter.
