I am smitten when it comes to twigs and branches. I simply love using them in homes. They bring a natural beauty and integrity to an interior that can’t be matched by any other ingredient.

Because they are organic and omnipresent in nature, twigs go with any style of interior — or exterior.

Whether the home is rustic, like this one …

…. or contemporary, like this one …

…. or minimalist, like this one, twigs are totally at home. This fabulous creation was crafted using branches from the yard of the owner, an architect.
I love that about twigs! With a pocket knife and a little ingenuity, you’ve got a DIY project that pays huge design dividends.

You could also use twigs and branches without actually wiring them for electricity, as with this artful branch, which was affixed to the conduit connecting these lights.

If you are not the twig-hunting type, Deanna Wish Designs offers twig creations like these chandeliers, which are handcrafted from natural hickory.

Check out this pendant light fashioned from twigs. Part of its appeal is the weblike patterns it casts on the ceiling and walls.

Twig chandeliers can take many forms. They can even be painted, like this gnarly mix of branches and twigs that repeats the theme of the wallpaper behind the bed.

Here branches were integrated into a candle-studded frame, offering a great way to test your tolerance for twigs in the home. The branches can be augmented or removed at whim.

How about a lighting fixture that combines whimsy and sculpture? This floor lamp was fashioned from an apple tree by a young French artist.

Instead of a single branch, how about a vertical column of twigs?
For a different approach, consider the sconce above it …

… or the horizontal stack of driftwood twigs forming the base of this lamp. Clearly, floor lamps and twigs are meant for each other.
I hope this gets your creative juices flowing, like it does mine. Let’s all grab some pruners and head for the back forty!
