Guest Picks: A Mirror for Every Wall

My family and I just moved, and I’m finally getting to start the fun part: decorating! It is far more enjoyable than unpacking boxes and organizing. My first big task is hanging mirrors, because the previous owners took most of the bathroom mirrors with them. I first started hunting for vanity mirrors but was easily distracted by all of the beautiful decorative mirrors out there.

Depending on your bathroom, any mirror that fits the space can work. It doesn’t even have to be a rectangle. Square, oval or other special shapes can work as long as the size is right. In fact, we have decided to use old decorative mirrors in two of the three bathrooms. And now I’m especially excited because I can purchase a new mirror or two for decorating around the house!

While mirrors are a must in the bathroom, they also work in just about any room in the house. They typically give the illusion of a bigger, brighter space and can solve many a decorating dilemma. Plus, they are so versatile in size and shape and can serve as either a showstopper or a subtle accent piece. I love round mirrors over a bed or in a room where there are a lot of hard angles. The sunburst shape is very trendy right now (and typically inexpensive), while beveled mirrors have a more classic, traditional appeal. Mirrors framed with driftwood and other natural elements are a great way to bring the outdoors in. I personally love the impact of large mirrors. My new house has fairly high ceilings and an open floor plan, so I’ll be looking for mirrors to anchor the tall walls.

I’ve handpicked 20 mirrors that are in the running for a spot in my new home. I hope this helps any of you who are mirror shopping as well! — Erin from Two Story Cottage
