June is Gay Pride Month. And whether you live in West Hollywood or West Virginia, chances are that you’ll start seeing rainbow flags round every corner as joyous celebrants take to the streets.
To be honest, I’ve never been crazy about rainbows as a design motif. For me they’ve always been one step up from unicorns and daisies. But in the spirit of Pride, I gave myself the task of finding interiors that utilize rainbows in ways that are classy, not cloying. I think I’ve found some attractive examples; see if you agree.
And whether you’re in the LGBT camp or merely know someone who is, now would be a great time to show your true colors — whether it’s in the way you decorate or the actions you take.

Climbing these stairs each day would be like ascending to heaven. Descending them each day, I would expect to find a pot of gold.
This glass display would be beautiful any time of year, but it would be especially awesome during Gay Pride Month.

Or a set of towels?
If I’m not mistaken, those are panes of colored glass lining the tops of those windows, set behind a scrim-like roller shade. What a wonderful burst of color for this otherwise austere interior. You could replicate the same thing with cellophane or theatrical gels.
Do you dream in color?
This rainbow-colored light fixture is playful but understated, and the perfect companion for this all-white dining set.
I don’t have a dock. But if I did, I think I’d turn some kids loose with a box of chalk and have them make me a rainbow-colored pathway to paradise …
… unless Mother Nature provided one first.
