After almost a decade of city living, Scott and I are homeowners with a front porch for the first time. It’s not too much look at (right now), but we’re excited about what it will become by the end of this summer. All of our porch dreaming has us making a wish list for furniture, lighting and decor. And while we’re still in the planning stages, we’re thrilled to see how we’ll pull it all together! Here’s a roundup of items that have caught our eye, all of which are conducive to patio lazing, cold-beverage drinking and warm-afternoon napping. — Kim from Yellow Brick Home
Bodega Birdhouse - $79I love the simple, clean lines of these modern birdhouses. A few grouped together would look stunning.
Brass Outdoor Weather Station - $74What a fun touch this would be in an outdoor space. It shows both temperature and humidity, is a great conversation starter and looks cute to boot!
Carson Gooseneck Wall-Mount Light With Shallow Dome Shade, Gloss White - $395This gooseneck exterior light would bring an awful lot of vintage charm to your outdoor space. It’s simple yet still sassy.
Outback Rocking Chair - $329When Scott and I bought our home in the summer of 2013, there was a rocking chair on the porch. It didn’t come with the home (shucks), but the idea of rocking back and forth with a glass of cold wine and a good book has me smiling.
Half-Moon-Pattern Throw Pillow by Heidi Gosen - $20I’m a sucker for anything black and white, and this half-moon pattern has my heart. It’s on trend without feeling trendy, and the color palette (or lack thereof) is classic enough to last for years.
Blue Ombré Throw Pillow by Siobhaniaa - $20Layer this fresh seafoam-colored outdoor pillow with the the black and white one, and you’ve got a winning combination. Better yet, just keep on stacking the pillows for a flirty, inviting vibe.
Hanolo Indoor-Outdoor Rug, Beige - $28This natural-colored rug would be a great backdrop for brightly colored pillows and other porch accessories. Scott and I love it so much, we picked one up for ourselves.
Addison Outdoor Side Table - $369This outdoor-friendly side table could double as extra seating, an ottoman or a plant stand, and the natural texture would look beautiful against the neutral area rug.
Café String Lights - $39.50Enjoy your favorite beverage on a cool summer evening under twinkling café lights — romantic, right? Café lights can come at many price points; I especially enjoy the extra touch these metal shades bring.
Deckscapes Exterior Acrylic Solid Color Deck StainMy porch floor has seen better days, and Scott and I would like to give it a fresh coat of paint for an instant facelift. There are a lot of deck stains and paints on the market, and you’ll find that they come in many, many colors as well. You can’t beat the instant gratification of new paint.
Coral Coast Faux Wood Adirondack Chair, Gray - $189.98The classic Adirondack chair just screams, “Relax here!” I like that this one is made of recycled plastic, so it’ll last for years to come without repainting.
Polywood 5-Foot Recycled Plastic Vineyard Porch Swing, Black - $459.99Porch swings will forever remind me of summer afternoons with my grandparents; therefore, one is a must on my new porch. Now to decide on a color. Bright and cheerful? Or moody and posh?
Outdoor Wood Cooler - $149.99With the amount of summer gatherings Scott and I enjoy hosting, we’re digging the idea of a permanent outdoor cooler. This one is easy on the eyes and practical, and we’re sure to be a hit with the neighborhood with all those frosty drinks.
River Blue 2057-10 PaintBlue seems to be a recurring theme throughout our new home, and our front door is no different. We’ll be painting it a deep navy, but this River Blue shade by Benjamin Moore would be a sophisticated and lively color to punch up the porch with.
Case Study Cylinder Planter With Stand - $149The sleek, modern lines on this plant stand would work indoors or out, but I’m thinking a pair would make quite the statement flanking my blue front door.
Shiva Lattice Coffee Table - $499The coffee table is essential indoors, and the same can be said for outdoors. And why settle for any old table when you can pick a statement piece?
Vintage Glass Iced Tea Set - $15.99This vintage-inspired iced tea set is so charming, and isn’t that the drink of choice for front-porch sitting?
Minka Aire Java Ceiling Fan in Flat White - $229.95Keep cool on a hot day with an outdoor ceiling fan. I know they’re not often the most attractive things, but this beauty serves up form and function in one.Buy
Loll Rectangle Planter, Black - $119Bring a row of beautiful plants to the porch with low, thin rectangular planters. Hanging baskets and small plant clusters will further complement your lazy, relaxing porch-sitting afternoons.
White Lacquer Wall Planter With 3 Satin Nickel Address Numbers by Urban Mettle - $195Don’t forget the details! Display your address numbers by your front door (which just happens to be a part of your front porch) in a lovely way with this wall planter.
