Pulling off wood in a bathroom is somewhat tricky. With all the water kicked around during baths and showers, mold and rot are fears — which is unfortunate, because wood is a great way to warm up an all-white color scheme, chosen by many homeowners for its clean and sterile look.
Architect Eric Barth solved this dilemma with the one thing that can ease moisture concerns: lots of ventilation.
For this contemporary Austin bathroom completed in November 2013, he placed the bathtub at one end of the space with an operable window that opens to the breezy backyard.
He also put the shower in its own enclosed space with its own ventilation system on the opposite side of the room. “After that we weren’t concerned about moisture at all,” he says.
