Guest Picks: Egg Platters to Keep Those Devils in Their Place

My 6-year-old dragged me to a paint-your-own-pottery shop recently. I hadn’t painted my own pottery in 15 years; the last time was back when I used to manage a similar shop. It was like returning to the street you used to live on. It just felt as though I didn’t belong there after I’d closed that chapter. But I promised, and so I took her. I went shelf by shelf to find the perfect piece. (My daughter didn’t take so long. Horse statue — no question.) Bowls, cups, candleholders, vases … then, there it was: a deviled egg plate. The last one on the shelf. I didn’t have a deviled egg plate. I probably needed one. It’s a little vintage, a little necessary. I mean, eggs do slide all over regular plates. I was sold. I painted a little hen in the center with polka dots all around the edge. It’s now my new favorite serving piece, and deviled eggs will likely form the cornerstone of my Easter meal now.

And so, with eggs on my mind, I’ve gathered a collection of deviled egg platters for those who somehow don’t have one already. Now, I’m off to find some recipes to make deviled eggs as interesting as my shiny new platter. If you like this collection, you might also like my collection of egg cups from about this time last year. — Meaghan from The Decorated Cookie

Boston Warehouse Hen House Deviled Egg Plate - $36.06 Ah, here we go: a hen. This tray is after my own heart, as I chose a hen for the center of my paint-your-own plate.

White Ceramic Bunny 12-Egg Platter Oh, come on! Now this is adorable, what with the helpful bunnies and all. Why, thank you, Mr. Bunny. I will have a deviled egg and lighten your load.

Portmeirion Botanic Garden Deviled Egg Dish - $30.14 This is what a deviled egg platter in spring should look like. It’s so lovely.

Wilton Armetale Flutes and Pearls Egg Tray - $67 This silver egg tray seems like it needs to be held by a butler. Or a footman? I should know this; I watch Downton Abbey.

Food Network 24-Count Egg Tray - $29.99 You expect egg trays to be round or even oval (you know, because eggs are oval). I like this unexpected rectangle.

Fitz and Floyd 29-537 Courtyard Butterfly Egg Tray - $16.99 Surprisingly, my searching revealed a dearth of unusual deviled egg plates. This butterfly was one of the first I found that fit the bill.

Bunny Ceramic Egg Dish - $12 This, for me, would be an individual serving of deviled eggs. And then I would refill the plate.

Grasslands Road American Bloom Ceramic Egg Plate With Bluebird Salt and Pepper - $30 This one comes with handles and birdie salt and pepper shakers. The maker has really thought of everything, including many people’s love of salt on deviled eggs.

Grasslands Road Spring Boutique Egg Tray With Salt and Pepper Bunnies - $30 This one comes with bunny salt and pepper shakers, if bunnies are more your thing.

Pastel Spring Glass Egg Plate Garden Sculpture by Jarm Farm - $135 I’m straying from my mission here, but the artist at this Etsy shop creates garden art with repurposed glassware. But this time it’s an egg tray. She has a stunning collection.

Zak Designs Kiwi Egg Tray - $9.54 How about a flash of color under all those deviled eggs?

traditional specialty tools by Amazon
Ateco Pastry Decorating Tips and Bag, 3-Piece Set - $8.10 I’m including some helpful tools to make deviled eggs, too. I always use a pastry bag fitted with a tip to fill the egg halves. It might seem like this would be more difficult, but it’s actually much easier and faster.

contemporary specialty kitchen electrics by Amazon
West Bend 86628 Automatic Egg Cooker - $25.99 I’ve never tried to make hard-boiled eggs any other way than in boiling water. This would be yet another appliance to store, but I wonder if egg cookers help you get more consistent results.

Micro Egg Microwave Egg Cooking Cup - $7.67 This egg cooking cup certainly would be easier to store than the previous cooker.
