Guest Picks: From India With Love

Perhaps it was the previews of the independent Indian film The Lunchbox, soon to be released in the States, or maybe it was the photos (and gorgeous treasures) from my friend and fellow blogger Christine Chitnis’ recent travels in Delhi, or perhaps it’s just something in the air. Whatever the reason, lately I have been feeling incredibly inspired by the colors, patterns, textures and history of India. Check out my 21 favorite finds for the home that come from or are inspired by this breathtaking country. — Laura from Lolalina

eclectic quilts by John Robshaw Textiles
Patmos Quilt - $325 John Robshaw is well known for his Indian-inspired designs, and he has a masterful eye for color and pattern. Right now I have my heart set on this reversible raspberry and white quilt — subtle stripes on one side, bold zigzags on the other.

eclectic storage units and cabinets by ABC Carpet & Home
India Vintage Mint Maya Cabinet - $1,595 The faded mint, aqua and white paint on this vintage 1940s cabinet from India is what immediately caught my eye, but the intricate carvings and beautiful hardware deserve a closer look. Because it is not too deep, this would work well in a hallway as linen storage or in a bedroom as a supplemental wardrobe.

eclectic quilts by Etsy
Cotton Indian Sari Kantha Quilts by Jaipur Handloom, Set of 5 - $174.99 I am more than a little obsessed with kantha quilts, the colorful blankets made from pieces of old cotton saris, sewn together using a kantha stitch. This Etsy shop is a great source for affordable pieces in amazing hues. Stock up and display any not used on your bed by stacking them on open shelving to add color to your room.

eclectic storage units and cabinets by ABC Carpet & Home
India Vintage Rose Maya Cabinet - $1,795 The vintage Indian cabinets sourced by ABC Carpet & Home have so much character that I couldn’t help adding another — this one in pink! I would be tempted to put this one in the kitchen, filled with colorful plates and cups.

industrial dish racks by Tsé & Tsé
Kitchen Rack, Small - EUR 242 This stainless steel plate rack is very similar to the ones found in kitchens across India. It’s handsome, sturdy and compact, and would be ideal in a small kitchen.

eclectic food containers and storage by Etsy
Blue Pottery Ceramic Spice Containers by Ridhi Sidhi, Set of 3 - $39.99 Hand-crafted spice jars like these would add a colorful touch to a kitchen shelf, desk or bathroom sink. Or remove the lids and use them as petite vessels for cut flowers.

eclectic side tables and accent tables by ABC Carpet & Home
India Vintage Ananda Table - $1,295 This beautiful vintage table from India circa 1930 or 1940 would be the highlight of any room. The octagonal top is made of marble, and the painted wooden base is accented with handmade tiles.

eclectic napkin rings by Le Mill
Le Mill Napkin Ring - EUR 4 These gorgeous silver napkin rings from Indian concept store Le Mill’s house line would add a luxurious gleam to the dinner table.

eclectic napkins by Les Indiennes
Fringe Napkins, Calico Indienne, Set of 4 - $96 And to put in those napkin holders, how about these hand-loomed, fringed napkins from Les Indiennes? Everything else on the table could be very simple, and these napkins would be enough to make it look special.

eclectic headboards by John Robshaw Textiles
Bihar Headboard - $1,610 Someday I would love to upgrade to an upholstered headboard, and the front-runner on my list right now is this one from John Robshaw.

contemporary accessories and decor by Furbish Studio
Blue Floral Platter - $36 In my dream bedroom makeover scenario, I would place one of these delicate little trays on my nightstand (next to the John Robshaw bed, of course) to hold jewelry and change.

eclectic storage units and cabinets by Cost Plus World Market
Whitewash Mehrab Cabinet - $249.99 I love the carved details and shape of this petite cabinet with shelves. It would make a perfect nightstand in a small bedroom.

contemporary knobs by Etsy
Hand-Painted Ceramic Knobs by Lallibhai, Set of 4 I would use these vintage hand-painted knobs to transform a basic dresser into something special. Paint the chest white, dove gray or soft blue.

contemporary dishtowels by Furbish Studio
Tea Towels, Petra Blue, Set of 2 - $28 These tea towels made in India are meant for the kitchen, but I think they would be equally chic as hand towels in the guest bath or powder room.

eclectic chairs by John Robshaw Textiles
German Silver Dining Chair, Gent’s Stripe - $1,400 This silver dining chair is way out of my price range, but wow, is it gorgeous! I’d love to be able to splurge on just one and use it as a desk chair at a small writing table in the living room.

contemporary rugs by The Rug Company
Udaipur Pink Handwoven Cotton Dhurrie - $195 I love the saturated color (and affordable price) of this hand-loomed cotton dhurrie from The Rug Company. I would use one in a small room, like the den, to add some warm color.

eclectic beds by ABC Carpet & Home
India Vintage Shakti Bed - $3,495 I could see using this jaw-dropping, gorgeous late-19th-century Indian bed as a daybed in the living room. It would certainly be a conversation starter!

contemporary throws by Amara USA
Avoca Mohair Throw, Ombré Pink - $171 Famed fashion editor Diana Vreeland once declared, “Pink is the navy blue of India.” Embrace the color by draping this intensely pink mohair throw over a sofa or an armchair.

contemporary books by Jayson Home
India: In Word & Image - $60 A little something for your coffee table, this book is packed with visual inspiration from one photographer’s travels across India.

contemporary accessories and decor by Etsy
Indian Wood Block Stamp 196 by Ta Ta Indian Wood Stamps - $27.50 If you are feeling crafty, why not try your hand at block printing using a vintage Indian wooden stamp? You can use it on paper, fabric, furniture or even on the walls.

eclectic outdoor products by The Maharaja Tent Company
Lily Pond Cottage Indian Tent Over the top? Definitely. But just imagine stepping into your backyard and seeing one of these traditional Indian tents. Wow! Right?
