Guest Picks: Glam Central Home Office
I currently share a home workspace with my husband. Though we share nicely and take turns, I never feel like I can completely personalize the desktop and make it reflect my more feminine style. Lately I’ve been considering creating two separate areas for our office work so that he can enjoy his more industrial accessories while I enjoy a bit more girly sparkle and chicness in a space that fits my taste more.
I haven’t worked out all the details yet, but I’m getting a much better feel for the style I seem to be drawn to. I like a bit of mixed metals (like gold and silver), a dash of lilac, a splash of gray and amethyst and some inspirational typography; the one trend I am crushing hard on is Lucite. It always seems to look so polished.
I’ve been hunting for office items that both embody luxe femininity and serve function, and I’ve found a variety in many price ranges to get my creative juices flowing and spark some inspiration in this undertaking. Jonathan Adler Zebra Dish - $32 This little Jonathan Adler zebra dish in your choice of silver or gold would be perfect on a desktop. I would use it for clips, washi tape or other small items.
I Can See Clearly Now Desk Mat - $35 I like that you can use the space beneath this acrylic desk mat as inspiration. You could slip inspiring quotes, photos and notes under it, and change them out whenever you want something different.
Park Mirrored Desk - $699 I have loved mirrored furniture for ages. It reminds me of old Hollywood glamour. I particularly like the size of this desk; it’s large enough so you can spread out on it but compact enough to be slipped into a corner of a bedroom.
Sugar Paper ‘Be You’ Print - $50 I love tucking inspirational typography into each room. This one is made of gold foil on a classic white background and could serve as elegant and inspiring artwork above a desk.
Purple Orchid in Square Ceramic Pot - $29.99 Having flowers on a desktop is a great way to get a delightful jolt of happy color. This orchid is faux, so it will always be in bloom.
French Quartier Rug, Light Gray - $78 I don’t think anything defines an area better than a pretty rug. I love the understated colors and pattern of this one.
Acrylic Desk Accessories - $28 I can’t stop drooling over this Lucite stapler, and the desk organizers are great too.
Jonathan Adler Brass Squirrel Letter Opener - $98 This gilded squirrel letter opener would make a sweetly elegant desktop touch.
Chive Vie Jolie Renee Silver Vase or Pencil Cup - $14 Of course you must include a pretty pencil cup. I love this silver one for its unusual shape.
S.E. Hagarman Designs All-Occasion Card Collection - $51 These all-occasion cards as artwork are to die for! I would be sure to slip a few into frames or under my clear desk mat.
Lucite Desk Collection, Tape Dispenser - $44 Lucite again. I might have an addiction here. I can never find my tape — maybe because my two children are always using it up. Mama’s Lucite tape dispenser would be off-limits to little fingers (well, mostly).
Wandering Pleats Curtain, Lilac - $128 I have two words for you: “lilac” and “ruffles.” These curtains are very girly — soft and dainty.
Acanthus Corkboard - $119 I love a chalkboard with a chunky gold-hued frame for notes and reminders.
Belfort Wingback Upholstered Dining Chair, Amethyst Belgian Linen - $1,079 I fell hard for this wingback chair in a smoky amethyst linen fabric.

Swirled Geode Knob - $18 Sometimes a simple knob update on furniture is all it takes to change the whole look. I can see these Swirled Geode knobs on a cabinet or on a side table’s drawers.
Clarus Small Brass Display Box - $59.95 I love the look of clear glass for pretty storage. This box has brass edges and comes in a few different sizes, so you could stack a couple of them for storage in plain sight.
