9 Beautiful Bedroom Views Shared by Houzzers
We’re always happy to hear from our readers, whether it be with compliments, concerns or even complaints. Our recent ideabook, Dream Spaces: Bedrooms With Amazing Views, has struck a chord with Houzzers. Many of you submitted comments, and some of you even passed along pictures of your own amazing vistas.
Everyone agrees that floor-to-ceiling windows look great, but as some readers pointed out, they can be deadly to birds. If you are having this problem or are thinking about installing large expanses of glass, check out Keep Your Big Windows — and Save Birds Too.
Many Houzzers understood the desire for a view but wondered how the homeowners slept with moonlight or sunlight streaming in. “I love to sleep in a dark room,” says wantsideas, “but I would take any of these views any day.” Suekat12 raises a practical issue: “The only drawback I see with these rooms would be keeping all that glass clean. You’d have to have window washers at your home once a month, especially at the beach, where the salt air and fog do a number on your glass.”
If you haven’t been dissuaded by these concerns, here are more amazing views from Houzz readers. You may find yourself feeling like inkwitch, who says, “Such rooms would spoil me! I might stay in bed all the time and do nothing but stare.”
On the coast of Maine, whalerwoman is lucky enough to have this water view from the bedroom in her cottage. She says the light doesn’t disrupt her sleep but admits that “other comments about the morning light are well taken. It doesn’t bother me in the least but drives my partner crazy. The view faces east, and the stars and rising moon at night make it all worthwhile for me (not for him). To the right (which you cannot see) is wide-open ocean. Sigh.”
Sigh, indeed!
After a rare snowstorm in Raleigh, North Carolina, last week, fbwebb snapped this moody black and white shot through his bedroom window. “Our master bedroom has four large windows opening to a wooded view, with a creek running alongside the house with a pond in the back,” he says. “Occasionally deer and other small wildlife can be seen. Also, lots of birds, Canadian geese, ducks etc. Love it!”
The vistas are so spectacular in Pipe Creek, Texas, near San Antonio, that wmgoins transformed his guesthouse into a bed-and-breakfast. “We have no drapes in the entire house, “ he says. “And you can see the nearest town, which is 16 miles away. We have only the occasional issue with birds — usually the cardinals deliberately flying into their reflection (a male territorial thing during mating season).”
That’s Canada’s beautiful Lake Okanagan spread out below alexatiffany’s window. This reader knows she’s lucky, saying, “We’re so blessed to live in Kelowna, British Columbia, a place that has lake and city views. And yes, we have motorized cellular shades and were so happy we went this route.”
Canadian Eve Millington believes “very small rooms can still afford large, beautiful views.” This shot, which shows she’s a fan of curtains to occasionally shut out the light, is of her “own humble cottage space, with a Quebec lake view that carries as much sentimental as aesthetic value. Lovely to wake up to it!”
New York City resident kit2650 is justifiably proud of his skyscraper view. “I gave up precious space in NYC to have it over larger rooms,” he says. “I have a motorized shade hidden under the window molding. It works beautifully with a battery-operated remote. No hardwiring required … just an extra $500 for the convenience. As for draperies hiding the view, I prefer falling asleep to the beauty of twinkling lights and waking up to the sunrise over the bridge. That’s what makes us all different!”
If you’ve got a great view, why limit it to bedtime? “This is the view from our bedroom of the Snake River and an Arabian horse ranch,” says Lauralynr, who added a pair of comfortable chairs for enjoying the vista.
With this see-forever water view through her window in Coconut Beach, Florida, cpblanco has no problem opening her eyes in the morning. “I love waking up early before the sun comes out,” she says. “I use the remote to lift the blackout roller shades, get my cup of coffee and drink it from my bed while watching the sun rise. It’s a great way to start the day!”
Homeowner Lorraine M, who lives in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, “loves the view as long I don’t have neighbors peeking in! LOL. Luckily, I have the view of the Lake Superior sunset and early-morning dawn with the moon from my bedroom and living room window.”
