Guest Picks: Camp Out in the Nursery

Truth be told, you’ll be spending many nights camping out in your child’s nursery. So why not take the decor all the way with a fun camp-inspired look? It’s one of my favorite nursery themes that can work for boys and girls alike. To keep things from going over-the-top, I prefer pieces that have that rustic and natural feel, but with a modern edge. Cato Hanger, Oak/Walnut - $465.44 Babies come with a lot of little things, and a place where you can hang some of the adorable ones is a must. This moose is much like the feather mobile: warm wood tones, a fun animal shape and a very graphic, clean look.


Hand-Crochet Alpaca Mushrooms, Set of 4 - $152 These beautiful hand-crocheted mushrooms bring in a magical-forest feel and add warmth and texture. I love that they’re mounted in a very clean, modern display box.


‘Animals of North America’ Banner - $69 This poster is both beautiful and affordable. I love the subject matter — what child doesn’t love animals? — and the warm but fresh color palette.


Andersen Crib, Maple - $749 This crib is simplicity at its best. I love that it is solid maple and would look at home in virtually any style of nursery.


Outdoors Banner, Canoeing - $99 This kitschy illustrated piece is so much fun! It would add that little bit of whimsy that every kids’ space needs.


Outdoors Banner, Backpacking - $99 I love to buy groups of similar art pieces whenever possible, as it helps keep things cohesive. This is the sister print of the previous piece.


‘Wander This Way’ Wooden Sign by Winter Cabin - $60 Arrows and beautiful lettering get me every time. Dimensional wall art is a lovely way to break up all of the paper pieces.


Top Rope Mirror - $219 This mirror is a ton of fun for a kids’ space; the rope brings in texture and warmth.


Caged Pendant - $89 Pendant lighting is great in kids’ spaces, because you don’t have to worry about its getting knocked off a table or tipping over. I love the rustic metal finish of this fixture.


Vintage Handwoven Tsuzure Ori Delicate Textile by Shop Glamma’s Attic - $18 A blanket for tummy time on the floor or snuggling up to read is a must. This one has a traditional look, but that bright and bold hue keeps it feeling fresh.


Fitted Crib Sheet, Southwest Diamond Mustard by Iviebaby - $65 There are so many crib bedding options now, especially on Etsy. I could easily have chosen five different prints from this particular shop that would have worked beautifully with this theme.


Owl Piggy Bank by Arks and Animals - $20.50 A kooky woodland critter with a simple graphic shape? I’m sold. And as a bonus, it is handmade and will help your little ones save their pennies.


Mineral Collection, 1950s Minerals and Agates by Nick Haus - $42 Think outside of the box when it comes to art — it doesn’t have to be a painting or a printed piece. This rock collection, for example, would make a great textural piece to display on a wall or shelf.


Anatolian Vintage Turkish Kilim Rug by Turkish Kilim - $199 This mostly traditional rug has a bit of a modern feel, thanks to its graphic pattern. It’s perfect for this type of space.


Beautifully Modern Reclaimed Old-Growth Dresser by Blake Avenue I love that this dresser: a) is handmade, b) has a rustic warm wood finish and c) has sleek hardware that makes it feel a bit modern.


Prism Brackets and Shelving - $58 Similar to the dresser, this shelf has a rustic wood top with sleek modern supports — the perfect pairing.


Moose Head Wire Sculpture by Wired by Bud - $85 A whimsical wire moose is a must for any camp-themed nursery, for sure!


Wooden Rocking Horse C03 by Emanuel Rufo - $126.09 I love this fun, modern take on the rocking horse. It’s OK to have a piece that almost completely swings to the modern side just to shake things up.
