Guest Picks: Extravagant Sinks for Luxurious Bathrooms

http://www.decor-ideas.org 02/04/2014 01:23 Decor Ideas

The majority of sinks that go into bathrooms tend to be rather ordinary and white, but I think there is nothing prettier than a unique sink perched on the counter or nestled into a lovely surface. A gorgeous sink married perfectly to a gorgeous countertop material is the pièce de résistance of a powder room.

I have a particular preference for above-the-counter sinks (or vessel sinks), but there are many applications in which it’s more appropriate to install the sink under the counter. All that matters is what works best for you and your family and how you want the bathroom to function.

I must confess that after writing about all of these sinks, I have a big itch to redo one of my bathrooms. Hope you get the same itch! — Gail from Dezignlicious

Mosaic Wood Vessel Sink - $1,695 How lovely is this mosaic wood sink? It would look fabulous on top of a slate counter or even in an all-white bathroom with a real wood floor. Or, if you want to be more practical, pair it with a porcelain floor that looks like wood planks.

Alchemy Mosaic Glass Vessel Sink - $2,390 There is nothing more exquisite than a beautiful glass vessel sink. This one has an unusual and colorful pattern. Sometimes vessel sinks like this can also be installed under the counter too, so you should always inquire when you go sink hunting.

Deep Pool Oval Lavender Blue Sink - $695 The gorgeous color of this ceramic sink first attracted me. I don’t think I have ever seen such a rich blue-purple like this before. If you are looking for a sink to add a splash of color to your new bathroom, this is perfect. (By the way, I am a great lover of all shades of purple.)

Linkasink B007 Bathroom Sink, White Bronze With Mother-of-Pearl Mosaic - $4,645 White bronze and mother-of-pearl? It’s quite the luxurious combination for a bathroom sink. The sculptured outside is stunning, and the metallic mosaic makes for an ultrarich look. Add some fabulous white marble and nickel bath accessories, and you will be in bathroom heaven.

LaToscana by Paini Crystal Wall L990 Wall-Mount Sink - $1,245 Well, if this doesn’t say simplicity, nothing does! Obviously it’s missing the wall-mounted faucet, but this sink is quintessentially modern. It’s almost hard to imagine how the water doesn’t drip over the edges of the glass, but trust me, it doesn’t. I love it as a contemporary statement of that old design adage, “Less is more.”

Elite Bath Bella Flor BF8 Bronze Bathroom Sink - $1,015 I usually do not like fancy-schmancy sinks, but I think this one could bring a lot of elegance to the right traditional bathroom. However, I would put a different faucet with it — perhaps one in dark bronze that’s more rustic looking. What do you think?

Elite Bath Kanani RK16 Bronze Bathroom Vessel Sink - $1,445 This is a unique textural sink that is made of solid carved bronze. Each one is an artistic creation, and I’m assuming that the giraffes come with it. It’s not for everyone, but how fun would it be to walk into a beautiful bathroom and see this? It would look great in a country vacation house.

Elite Bath Oasis OV30 Bronze Bathroom Vessel Sink - $2,600.50 I am a sucker for an oversize sink, and this fabulous metal one is simple, large and elegant. I would pair it with a wall-mounted faucet for a chic look that keeps with its style.

Elite Bath Azteca AZV15 Bronze Bathroom Vessel Sink - $1,337 Here is another extremely attractive vessel sink that has an ethnic look to it. It’s perfect for those who prefer all of the design elements to be on the exterior of the sink bowl and like a clean look inside. I think it depends on the materials of the sink and the look you want: The more design, the fancier it looks.

Tray Sink With Handles A shiny metal sink is always a showstopper in a bathroom. (However, do not go this route if you cannot clean it every day.) The rectangular shape of this one makes it really handsome, and it’s designed to look like a tray, hence the handles. They’re a touch of sophisticated whimsy.

Facet Sink Here is a wonderful rectangular sink if you just want elegance without high-polish shine and constant maintenance. Plus, I adore the lovely drain in the center. Many sink companies offer unusual decorative drains that up the ante.

Magic Square Sink, Large I am including this sink just because it comes with an invisible drain — it runs around the outside edge of the inside of the sink — and because it’s made of marble, which is an elegant material. Although the picture shows the sink on the top of the counter, I think I would prefer it sunk into the countertop.

Kohani Brushed Nickel Copper Sink - $1,595 For those of you who prefer sustainable products, this sink is made of recycled copper. I love the hammered metal finish and the clean, sleek look. There is definitely a Zen quality to this tastefully designed sink.

JSG Oceana Glass Alina Art Vessel Sink, 24-Karat Gold - $2,034 I’m including this small glass sink because the shape is so pretty and because red-orange makes a super design statement and can take you to different place. This isn’t very big, but it’s packed with big design in its shape and color. I’d love to walk into a guest bathroom and see this perched on the countertop.

Marzi Sinks Glass Pebble Bottom Urban Ramp Bath Sink - $1,120 This sink has a really interesting shape and a surprising mix of materials. It’s a great way to get a smashing look in a bathroom without selecting some perishable, high-maintenance material.

LaToscana by Paini Swing 85 L1180 Wall-Mount or Vessel Sink - $576.40 This one-piece, wall-mounted sink is the perfect contemporary piece if you want simplicity. It can be installed as is on the wall or added to the top of a vanity console. I just adore the oval shape, which is one of my favorites for bathrooms. Even though this is rather simple, it carries a big stick in terms of design.

Alchemy Glow Sink Here is a really interesting design idea: LED lights under the counter that illuminate the glass bowl with a soft glow. I have seen this done several times with different materials like onyx and resin, and it is really quite effective.

Custom Mizubachi Pedestal Sink When the sink is one with the base, it has a very dramatic look. This granite pedestal looks like someone chipped it out of the mountain and then made a sink hole in it. I like its monolithic look and originality. Plus, I think it goes well with both contemporary and more eclectic looks.

Purple Onyx Wabi Vessel Sink This little beauty is made out of purple onyx, something I do not see very often. It is perfect for that small powder room vanity where you want to get a lot of bang for your buck in a very sophisticated way. It’s très chic, I would say!

Countersink With Rectangular Bowl, Bronze/White Lami - $5,139 Clean and extremely simple, this frosted glass (my preference over shiny glass) sink and counter unit is truly awesome. Jump ship and put it on a highly figured wall with a mirror running the width of the sink and up to the ceiling. I promise you, it will look fantastic. You can customize the length (up to 7 feet), so it can be used in a variety of bathroom applications.

Nameeks Lavabo 8104 Floor Standing Washbasin, White - $2,520 This washbasin, as the manufacturer calls it, is a terrific idea for an all-in-one sink. Forget about all the practicality of having a counter and use your imagination to come up with other ways to make your guests comfortable when using this in a bathroom. It will have people thinking you are on the design forefront.

Neo-Metro Ebb Concept Illuminated Wall-Mounted Sink - $7,110.90 This is one of my very favorite sinks. I have adored it for several years and had to show it to you. The top is made from resin (which is available in several different colors) and has a glowing LED display inside. The sink itself is highly polished stainless steel, configured in a trough style with a hidden drain. It is huge; it is modern; it is stunning — enough said!
