Guest Picks: Slices of Orange for a Cheerier February

Whenever February hits I characteristically find myself longing for spring, yet still I’m in the grip of winter. The kiddos often troop home from school with drippy noses, a chill finds its way inside, and the skies are often a dull gray color. It’s about this time of year that I find myself drawn to the color orange. It’s known for its energizing effects, so I look for ways to scatter its essence in all the corners of my home, with hopes of brightening my days and lifting my spirits while I await spring.

I’ve gathered some of my favorite household items in varying shades of persimmon, tangerine, rust, paprika, coral and apricot. There is a perfect shade of orange for everyone, so join me in sprinkling a bit of this enthusiastic hue throughout the home this month. — Sasha from Lemonade Makin’ Mama

contemporary food containers and storage by Sundance Catalog
Clementine Glass Jars - $20 I must confess: I’ve got a thing for cute jars with colorful lids. I keep miniature oranges and other fresh fruit in big jars on the countertop, and baking ingredients in smaller ones. And these have completely stolen my heart. If I hadn’t already promised myself that I’d stop putting everything into jars, I’d splurge and get them.

contemporary dining chairs and benches by Amazon
Amelia Metal Café Chairs, Orange, Set of 2 - $199 I am trying not to covet this chair for my office space too much. I love the Tolix-style design, and of course, the orange would make a splendid splash of happy in my workspace.

contemporary serveware by West Elm
Square Lacquer Tray, Orange - $29 Can you really ever have too many glossy, lacquered trays? How about when you team one up with the color orange? This could be a good way to corral clutter in the kitchen, and it would even look great on a bedside table.

Unlikely Symmetry Floral Teacup & Saucer - $38 Each afternoon my daughter and I spend some time taking tea after school, and now it’s our favorite time together. I love the sweet design of these teacups and saucers. Talk about fun!

contemporary pillows by Pottery Barn
Chevron Embroidered Lumbar Pillow Cover, Orange - $59.50 The guest bed in my house is done up in simple white, cream and gray, but this time of year it needs a punch of color. I am digging this embroidered orange chevron print.

eclectic outdoor rugs by Ballard Designs
West Hampton Indoor-Outdoor Rug, Orange - $49 I’m loving the bold graphic print on this indoor-outdoor rug. The best part is that by the time I get tired of it indoors, summer will most likely have arrived and it can transition outside to my patio.

contemporary storage and organization by PBteen
Dorm Trunk, Orange - $199 I’ve taken my love of all things orange rather seriously in my daughter’s room, which is almost smothered in the hue. I’m certain she would love this foot locker for additional storage.

contemporary side tables and accent tables by ModCloth
Less Is Morning Accent Table This sweet little three-legged table looks like it was held upside down and dipped in dark orange paint. I love its diminutive size and bold dose of color. I can think of a dozen spaces where a table like this would be of use in my home.

modern refrigerators and freezers by West Elm
Smeg Refrigerator, Orange - $1,999 While not in my immediate budget, this classic Smeg refrigerator had to make the cut. I can’t even imagine the jaw-dropping impact it would have on my kitchen.

traditional throws by Pottery Barn
Faux Solid Mohair Oversize Throw - $59 I would happily toss this cozy faux mohair throw blanket on the sofa or guest bed. It’s perfect for a punchy color accent, not to mention a warm option on a chilly night.

contemporary cups and glassware by World Market
Orange Confetti Stemless Wineglasses, Set of 4 - $23.96 I would probably use these confetti-sprinkled stemless wineglasses for orange juice with my kids on the weekends. Or for the occasional glass of wine with my book club. Either way, they are sure to add a little something special to the tabletop.

contemporary artificial flowers by World Market
Orange Velvet Plum Blossoms, Set of 2 - $15.98 I’m not generally a fan of faux flowers; however, these velvet plum blossom stems in orange might be an exception, especially if tucked into a wide-mouth vintage glass jar.

modern outdoor stools and benches by World Market
Orange Lili Punched Drum Stool - $59.99 A fun perch for a cup of tea or a book, this stool has the perfect bold shade of deep orange and punchy pattern.

contemporary storage and organization by Garnet Hill
Hable Storage Bin, Clementine - $275 Storage needs are at an all-time high for me during this season, as I plug away at my resolutions to get a few things organized. These are heavy duty and can even be filled with ice and used for drinks when you’re entertaining. How cool is that?

contemporary artwork by World Market
Orange Soapstone Love Knot Figure - $7.48 This little soapstone love knot would be a great conversation starter on my bookshelf or coffee table, or it would add great color and texture to a stack of books or magazines.

contemporary books by Anthropologie
Mr. Boddington’s Penguin Classics, ‘Wuthering Heights’ - $17.99 Speaking of coffee tables, I love digging into the classics during February. Perhaps romance is in the air, but whatever the case, the bright colors of this book cover make it perfect for displaying.

eclectic mirrors by Garnet Hill
Château Mirror, Orange - $348 This chunky framed mirror is a nice large size, and the spicy shade of orange makes it a showstopper. I’d love to hang something like this in my hallway so I can check my lipstick before I leave the house.

modern serveware by ModCloth
Down to a Diner Art Creamer Caddy - $14.99 This vintage-style creamer made my day. I would love pulling this out and loading it on a breakfast tray for winter houseguests.

traditional artwork by World Market
‘Orange Glow’ Giclée Canvas by Sylvia Angeli - $139.99 I’ve got the perfect spot for this painting of juicy-looking fruit. My entryway is kind of dark, and a large painting with fun color would be just the thing for it.

Knockout Orange 6885 Paint I once painted my kids’ bathroom orange. It was wild and crazy, and looked like it was on fire when the sun was setting. Nowadays I am more apt to paint a single furniture piece in such a bold hue rather than an entire room. That said, this Knockout Orange shade is a great choice.
