With Valentine’s Day coming up, dinner reservations (and, in some cases, babysitters) are already being booked. While my husband, Chris, and I love a good date night out as much as the next couple, sometimes a romantic dinner for two right at home can be just as wonderful. Chris is planning the menu, and I’ve been eyeing these items to set the table and the mood with, making a night in feel even more special. — Julia from Chris Loves Julia
Table in a Bag Vintage String Lights - $99.95 Turn off all the overhead lights and set the mood by stringing these globe lights around the room instead.
iPhone Gramophone, Walnut - $249 This gramophone is so old-Hollywood romantic (swoon), but it also plays smooth-groove music right from your iPhone (double swoon).
Votive Cups, Silver, Set of 12 - $19.95 You can’t have enough candles. I love the idea of scattering these sparkly mercury glass votive cups all over the place.
Pinstripe Tablecloth - $78 I've been looking high and low for a tablecloth to cover my much-loved table. This pinstriped design is classic, no-frills and modern.
Gabriel Candleholder - $59.95 What’s a Valentine’s Day tablescape without a candleholder? I love this geometric and brass-plated one.
Scape Dinnerware, Cocoa, Set of 4 - $16 My family is usually an all-white-dinnerware family, so these dark and moody plates would, well, set the mood.
Rondo Gold Cutlery, 5-Piece Set - $85 It's a special occasion! I feel like gold flatware is called for.
Strasbourg Napkin - $17 Obviously red is the color of love, and of Valentine’s Day in general. I love how these napkins would bring in the red-hot color while still being appropriate for year-round use.
Wooden Heart Napkin Rings, Solid Oak, Set of 4 - $52.23 Having one or two pieces specifically for the evening would make everything feel more thoughtful. These heart-shaped solid oak napkin rings couldn’t be more appropriate.
Camille 23-Ounce Red Wine Glass - $14.95 This clean-lined stemware would let the other stars of the table shine while subtly being extremely good looking.
Complete 5-Piece Askew Serviceware Set - $98 You could serve me anything in these platters and it would taste good.
Valentine’s Day Plates, Set of 4 - $35.95 While hearts can sometimes be gimmicky, I love these organic-shape stoneware plates. They’re perfect for appetizers and salads.
Jobillo Wood Serving Spoon - $35 Wooden serving spoons would warm up the tablescape. I have a few and love them.
Olive Wood Cutting Board - $64 Table-side carving? Yes, please.
Threshold Color-Block Cylinder Vase, White/Black - $14.99 I love this simple color-block cylinder vase. I can only imagine loving it more with light pink flowers tucked inside for a feminine and romantic touch.
Pink Silk Peonies by Morgann Hill Designs - $20 While nothing can beat real flowers on your table, when it is the middle of winter, suddenly nothing is sweeter than these could-be-real silk peonies.
Kate Spade New York Party Coasters, Set of 24 - $20 When it’s time to move the party for two away from the table, these festive coasters will keep the party going.
Bormioli Cassiopeia Glassware, Sets of 6 - $30 I love these faceted tumblers that feel a little more special than everyday glassware.
Fondue au Chocolat Cup Bring on dessert! I love that this stoneware cup (which you can even heat in the microwave) keeps the chocolate inside warm for 45 minutes. It makes for the perfect no-fuss, no-prep treat that’s still deliciously romantic and perfect for sharing.
Alhambra Throw, Marine - $150 I already own a similar supersoft, ecofriendly blanket — it hangs out in my daughter’s room. But this one would be plenty pretty for the living room and perfect for a night of snuggling for two.
