As a fabric hoarder and addict, I can’t help myself when I stumble across fabulous designs. Ever since I learned to use my mother’s sewing machine at age 10, I have been sewing up a storm. Fabrics are a great way to add color and drama to a space. You can buy small bits of high-end fabrics to create a simple throw pillow, or buy yards of inexpensive fabrics to create dramatic drapes or stylish bedding. A great fabric can really influence the direction of a room, or simply take a bland and boring space and give it depth and richness and create drama. This is a collection of my latest favorite fabrics, and I hope you’re as inspired by them as I am! — Barbara from Markova Design
Ming Dragon Fabric, Admiral - $58 This is my absolute favorite fabric right now. It’s the perfect twist on traditional chinoiserie.
Peaceful Temple Fabric, Lacquer - $19.95 As a lover of chinoiserie, I think this fabric is perfect for perking up a room. I made a few pillows with it, and they add so much life to my bedroom.
Lotus Lake Fabric, Porcelain - $19.95 OK, I am on a bit of a chinoiserie kick, but I promise I have other fabulous fabrics that aren’t chinoiserie too! I love the pops of orange in this fabric and see it on a refurbished midcentury modern armchair or seat cushion.
Charcoal Dots Fabric - $17.50 Hello, lovah! I adore this fabric. It’s a fabulous modern version of a traditional animal print.
Zia Birch Fabric, Navy - $14.95 This large-scale striped fabric would be perfect for a long bolster or bench cushion.
Malakos Malachite Fabric - $23.95 Isn’t this dreamy? It would surely pack a punch in any space. Mix it with a bit of black and white, or why not pair it with some fuchsia for extra-cheery color this dreary winter?
Multicolored Ikat Fabric by the Yard by SilkWay - $16.69 I love, love, love this fabric. Use it to whip up a few throw pillows to add that well-traveled look to your space.
Anastasia Fabric, Aubergine - $9.95 Maybe it’s all the Downton Abbey I’ve been watching, but I am really starting to gravitate toward florals. My favorites have a black background that really creates drama and adds richness.
Mani 21038 Fabric - $30 Blue and white as a combo is making a comeback, and this block-print fabric would look amazing as drapes. It’s the perfect way to create freshness and drama.
Distorted Fabric - $50 Isn’t this fabric juicy? Designed by Jonathan Adler, it is a fun update on the classic chevron print.
Sofia Fabric, Wide Stripe, Black/White - $7.99 You can’t go wrong with black and white stripes to add pizzazz. This is my go-to fabric, and the price can’t be beat.
Joonas Cotton Fabric - $62.88 I adore this classic Marimekko fabric. I think it would look fabulous paired with a classic floral pattern to add some punch to a living room or bedroom.
Pieni Unikko Cotton Fabric - $53 Add a splash of color with this Marimekko fabric that will take your space from boring to “Wow!”
Waverly Lotus Chintz Lake Fabric, Ebony - $17.98 I love this colorway with the black background. I must order myself a few yards.
Richloom Lucy Eden Fabric - $22.98 I have this fabric in my house and love its rich colors. Because it’s a large-scale print, it would be perfect for an ottoman or dramatic drapes.
Melaya Indigo Fabric - $16.95 I tend to gravitate toward blue and white — I can’t help it! It is such a classic color combo.
Gloria Prism Fabric - $24.95 I love the jewel colors of this fabric. It’s a perfect way to add a pop of color.
Rio Swirl Night Sky Fabric - $49.95 Make your space look exotic with this brightly colored suzani fabric.
Ashbury Ikat Fabric, Hot Pink - $29.95 I don’t really decorate with pink, but I am drawn to this bright pink ikat fabric. I could see it in a girl’s bedroom in small doses or as dramatic drapes or bedding.
Small Ikat Dot Fabric, Navy - $11.95 Dots have been popping up in home decor, and this fabric would add a bit of whimsy to any space.
