Guest Picks: Nursery Finds to Energize and Inspire

When the new year rolls around, I always find myself craving fresh, bright, invigorating colors for my home. I came across a striking rug on Etsy that combined traditional kilim patterns with a fun color palette and thought it would be perfect for a brilliantly colorful nursery design. I pulled colors from the rug and threw in some glitzy metallic accents and came up with this showstopper of a nursery that no one is likely to forget. The baby who lives in this room would be a happy child for sure! — Lauren from A Lovely Lark

Vintage Turkish Kilim Rug From Milas by Turkish Kilim - $689 This is the rug that inspired the rest of my picks. I love the traditional kilim pattern done in a fresh color palette.

Vintage Repurposed Globe by Wild & Free Designs - $215 I have a thing for globes and hand lettering, so this combination of the two made my heart stop. Plus, I love the quote for a little one — so inspiring!

Rainbow Brite Sparkle & Shine Tissue Tassel by Everly Lane - $49 This glitzy garland would add some lovely texture and color to the room. It would transition easily to a child’s or teen’s space too.

contemporary prints and posters by Etsy
‘I Love You Beyond Measure’ Linocut Print, Magenta by Ink Stomp - $21 Here’s another saying that is just right for a baby’s room. It’s so simple and so true.

‘Life Is Beautiful’ Linocut Print, Turquoise by Ink Stomp - $21 This would pair well with the previous print. The script next to the sans serif font would be a great juxtaposition.

Neon Pink Heart Print by Banquet - $50 This lovely, bold, graphic heart would add a nice punch of color to the walls. Plus, graphic elements are perfect for babies’ developing eyes.

eclectic pillows by West Elm
Steven Alan Abstract Crewel Pillow Cover, Deep Coral - $44 This fun abstract pillow reminds me of a child’s painting, so free and loose. It would be lovely on a nursery glider or window seat.

contemporary baskets by Target
Threshold Color-Block Round Woven Basket - $29.99 Storage is a must in a nursery, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be pretty. I love this dipped basket from Target for holding toys or blankets.

contemporary throws by Artsy Modern
Siksakki Blanket - $149 A lovely blanket to throw on the glider, to cozy up under together while reading a book or to use on the floor for tummy time is a nursery must.

contemporary hooks and hangers by A+R
Talking Heads Coat Hooks, Set of 4 - $98 Hooks provide great wall storage. These ones are fun, and the funky shapes are great for a child’s space.

contemporary ottomans and cubes by Etsy
Franco Albini Rattan Ottoman by Gallivanting Girls - $265 This ottoman could be used for propping up your feet while nursing, as additional seating for a little one or as a prop to help older babies practice pulling themselves up. It’s not only superstylish, but also safe and durable, so it’s just right for a baby’s room.

‘Floating Clouds 02’ Giclée Print by Siiso - $75 The colors in this painting would truly pull the space together. This would be the showstopper among showstoppers.

modern pendant lighting by 1stdibs
Pendant by Rotaflex for Heifetz This light is so much fun! Even though this particular one is vintage, you could easily re-create the look with a simple spherical pendant and some paint.

modern chandeliers by Etsy
Crystal Beaded Urchin Chandelier With 5 Lights by Stimulight - $529 This light would be amazing as well. It could act both as functional lighting and as a focal point, because it’s sure to catch the interest of those big, round baby eyes.

industrial wall sconces by Urban Outfitters
Angled Wall Lamp - $59 Sconces are a great secondary source of light in a nursery, because table lamps and floor lamps can be a bit of a hazard. This one is funky without being over-the-top; I love the gold.

contemporary cribs by Karla Dubois
Oslo Modern Baby Crib I love everything about this crib. The wood makes it feel a little traditional, but the clean lines make it feel modern. Plus, it has storage — win, win, win.

modern cribs by Rosenberry Rooms
Midcentury Crib, French White - $980 This crib doesn’t provide storage, but it makes up for it with the prettiest legs you’ve ever seen. It’s a great transitional piece that would be at home in a traditional or modern space.

contemporary pillows by Etsy
Cloud-Shaped Pillow, Wide Stripes by Colette Bream - $68 I love this handmade cloud pillow from Colette Bream. It would add the whimsy that every child’s space needs.

modern chairs by Innit Designs
Acapulco Chair, Turquoise Weave on White Frame - $398 If you’re looking to really make a statement, this chair is for you. It may not be a plush glider, but with a faux-fur throw and a cushion, it could be a fun hangout. Buy on Houzz

contemporary mobiles by Etsy
Bird Mobile, Pink by Robinson Designs - $46 Babies love mobiles, and I love this natural wooden bird with a pop of color on his tail.
