This holiday season I’m envisioning a table made up in shades of gray. For me gray is the new neutral that really lets the food, drink and flowers pop. Here’s a collection of some coveted tableware pieces in gray, with some pewter, silver and mercury glass thrown in for good measure. — Tami from Running with Tweezers

Eclectique Dinnerware Place Setting, Mixed Gray Set - $94 I love that these dishes are scalloped, but not too much. They’re a modern take on a very traditional style. The mix of white and gray keeps them really light, and they would go well with so many accent colors.

Soiree Tablecloth - $128 This tablecloth has some whimsy and character without overwhelming the table setting. Plus, I love the hand-doodled feel of it.

Wide-Rimmed Antique Oval Pewter Platter - $415 I adore pewter serving pieces, and this one makes a big statement. When not loaded down with your holiday roast, it could be a great way to display fruit for a centerpiece, carry in individual trifles or present cocktails.

Stratford Cake Stand I can’t think of a single thing that wouldn’t be made prettier by this dramatic cloche display piece. It’s tall too, so there’s lots of room for flowers or candles even.

Feast Platter - $49.95 I love versatile pieces like this: It’s a cheese board, a dessert serving tray, a centerpiece base for small vases or candles. The handles make it sturdy and rustic.

Threshold 16-Piece Wellsbridge Dinnerware Set, Charcoal - $59.99 The updated color makes these inexpensive dishes look posh and modern.

Welcome Large Oval Platter - $39.95 The slightly askew shape of this platter keeps it from being a boring basic. This would get used in my house almost daily.

Threshold Porcelain Round Bread Basket, Gray - $16.99 With a really lovely damask or linen napkin liner, this woven ceramic piece would be the ultimate bread basket.

Hand-Thrown Bake Set, Gray Motif - $98 These tonal baking dishes are a really lovely way to bring items from oven to table.

Silver Slate Cheese Board - $38 Flat, unadorned boards and platters are some of the most versatile pieces I own. Year-round, these would make amazing cheese plates or bases for some amazing centerpieces.

Olivia Pewter Carving Set - $310 People often overlook serving utensils. These have an heirloom feeling, and the pewter finish is stunning.

Metallic Double Old-Fashioned Glass - $7.95 I have an obsession for vintage glassware. These tumblers have that vibe without the price tag.

Siena Jacquard Napkins - $59.95 I love how elegant these napkins are, yet they still have the feeling of a gussied-up bandana.

Dandelion Greens Flatware - $24 If you’re in the market for special holiday flatware, this is it. The lacy, baroque detail makes these showstoppers.

contemporary cups and glassware by Kohl's
Artland Brocade Double Old-Fashioned Glass Set, Silver - $44.99 The contrasting interior color of these highball glasses is a nice surprise. They’re also inexpensive, so you can buy a bunch of them to use as cocktail glasses, candleholders or small vases.

Bedårande White Wine Glass - $4.99 At my house my family loves short-stemmed or stemless glasses for wine. These squatty little ones are easy to store and tough to knock over. And the smoky gray is just gorgeous.

Staub Mini Round Cocotte, Graphite Grey - $59.95 I think individual servings of things at holiday dinners really make a statement. They make each of your guests feel special. Serving each person soup or a baked cheese appetizer in this with his or her name on a tag would be a serious wow place card. Buy on Houzz

Monique Lhuillier Waterford Dinnerware, Bliss Gray Platter - $100 Just the tiniest bit of floral detail gives this platter a lacy touch without making it too girly. With its raised lip, this would make a wonderful cocktail tray.

traditional serveware by Pottery Barn
Antique Silver Pitchers - $79 I think these pewter pitchers are so stunning. They make me think of Dutch still-life paintings. They’d be amazing full of lush flowers when not keeping guests hydrated at your holiday party.

contemporary accessories and decor by Garnet Hill
Mercury Glass Cloche - $98 These mercury glass cloches are food safe — just imagine them in the middle of a table or buffet chock-full of cheese, currants and nuts. Amazing!
