Guest Picks: My Type of Decor

The way you decorate your home says a lot about you — but if you decorate with words, it can say even more. I love choosing pieces for my home that inspire guests with a positive message and contain fun hand lettering or type that is just purely decorative. I blame my love for letters on that fact that I’m a graphic designer, but I know I’m not the only one, because there are some pretty amazing items out there with beautiful type! Check out some of my favorite typographic pieces below; I think you’ll like what they have to say. — Jamie from A Pair of Pears

contemporary prints and posters by Etsy
Typography Print Poster Art, 'Let's Stay Home' by The Motivated Type - $12 I am a homebody through and through. Nothing makes me happier than being at home with my husband Jake and our pup.

contemporary barware Letters Coasters
Letters Coasters - $12 When Pixel, my dog, was a puppy, he chewed up the coasters. I haven’t found any I’ve liked enough to replace them — until now. These are perfect.

contemporary dishtowels by Etsy
Team Tea Towels by Blackbird Tees - $35 This sounds good to me! I love cooking a good meal for Jake and me, but I hate cleaning up afterward. I’ll leave that job for him.

contemporary cups and glassware by Indigo
'Bonjour Beauté' Mug - CAD 10 I’m a sucker for mugs, especially ones with beautiful lettering. Give me my morning coffee in this, and I’d be a happy girl.

contemporary kitchen tools by World Market
Cookie Stamps - $7.98 I want to stamp these on everything I bake, not just cookies. They would be cute for a pie too. I would use them for treats brought to a get-together; that way everyone will know my treats are homemade.

contemporary doormats by Furbish Studio
Best Foot Forward Doormat - $45 I love this doormat. It has such a cute and positive message — I wouldn’t mind getting this reminder from time to time.

contemporary pillows by Furbish Studio
New York Needlepoint Pillow - $98 This pillow is right up my alley; it has that perfect modern vintage vibe. I’ll take one for my couch, please.

contemporary dinnerware by Pottery Barn
Alphabet Tidbit Plate - $6.50 I just can’t get over how fabulous this plate is. It would be perfect for serving pretty finger food at a party. And when the guests go home, I would use it for holding my earrings, because there is no way I’d hide this beauty in the cabinets.

traditional accessories and decor by Pottery Barn
Tic-Tac-Toe Game - $24.50 Jake and I love playing games. This would be perfect to leave out on our coffee table so that we can easily play a quick game together.

contemporary storage and organization by Harabu House
Nos. 1, 2 and 3 Recycled Canvas Buckets - $12 Sometimes my desk can become an awful mess. I would love to have these to help keep things organized and tidy.

contemporary artwork by Anthropologie
Ikat Monogram Letters - $16 I love the colors and patterns in these letters. It would be cute to get a few and spell out a word or phrase.

contemporary originals and limited editions by Etsy
Bespoke Original Typographical Letter Art by The Happy Pencil Shoppe - $82.73 I can’t have enough of things with my initial on them, and this monogram is customized. Now that’s pretty special.

contemporary artwork by Etsy
Large Wall Monogram 8-Inch Letters by Nicole Porter Design - $30 This sign would add such an artful vibe to the kitchen. I really like the clean white of the letters.

contemporary dinnerware by West Elm
Shanna Murray Salad Plates - $8 These would be perfect for all of my family gatherings this holiday season. But who am I kidding? I would eat off these every day.

contemporary dishtowels by Etsy
'Nothing Goes Better With Coffee' Screen-Printed Dish Towel by Little Low Studio The hand lettering on this tea towel is so cute. Plus, the designers really knew what they were talking about when they made it. I wouldn’t mind a piece of chocolate cake to go with all that coffee, though.

contemporary barware by Urban Outfitters
Mounted Bottle Opener - $34 Somehow I always misplace the bottle opener and have to go digging through all the kitchen drawers. This wall-mounted one would solve the problem pretty quickly, and it sure doesn’t hurt that it looks nice too.

contemporary prints and posters by Etsy
Dog Eye Chart Love Print by ReStyle Shop - $15 Jake and I are totally dog people. Our little dalmatian is obsessed with his bone, so I think this art print would be right at home in our apartment. It’s like the maker took the words right out of our mouths.

contemporary kitchen tools by Williams-Sonoma
ABC Mini Cookie Cutter Set - $12.95 The possibilities for these are endless. I would make cookies with them one week, and then the next I might use them to cut out some clay for little monogram ornaments.

contemporary accessories and decor by Etsy
A-Z Bookends by Cranny Found Favorites - $48 These bookends are cute and clever. I love the color and texture of that yarn and think these would look perfect on the shelves in my office.

contemporary bed pillows and pillowcases by Urban Outfitters
Beautiful Adventure Pillowcases - $34 These are fun and functional. Jake and I are always up for an adventure, and the photographic elements on these pillowcases are really beautiful.
