Guest Picks: A Deep Blue Bedroom Dream
My husband, Scott, and I are turning our recently purchased two-flat Chicago home into a warm and welcoming single-family one, and we've had to be creative with the original floor plan. For starters, the second-floor kitchen was ripped out, and in its place is — get this — our new master bedroom. As we were coming from a small condo, this bedroom feels enormous. It has two windows! A wall that's begging for custom closets! And an entire mini room for laundry! (OK, we're working on that one.) In any case, with so much of our home still under construction, we can't help but daydream about the future direction of our bedroom: a warm, dark wall color and punches of navy, bright white and aqua. Since we're still in wishful-thinking mode, here's one direction we could go to turn our big white box into a dreamy blue haven. — Kim and Scott from Yellow Brick Home
Chloe Chair, Vance Fabric, Indigo - $799 A deep, comfy seat in the bedroom is our idea of dreamy (dorky, I know). If we move our bed to the shortest wall, we might just be able to pull this off. The one here would be a great focal point for any room, though.
Scalloped Stool, Blue - $118 This inky blue stool would be sweet tucked under a side table or as a place to prop your toes when putting your shoes on.
Tangled Chandelier, Natural Brass - $385 This romantic chandelier is still fun, and the brassy accents would look gorgeous against a dark navy wall. Be still, my heart.
Brompton Tufted Wingback Velvet Bed, Navy - $699 This tall navy wingback headboard has Scott and me feeling all sorts of dreamy.
Union Square Wingback Headboard, Navy - $499 This is a headboard Scott would get onboard with. It has masculine lines for him but texture enough for this girl. Oh, yes.
The Emily + Meritt Metallic Dottie Sheet Set - $79 You know what makes this heart beat faster than the perfect shade of navy? Gold. Navy and gold.
Chambray Dover Ocean Duvet - $138 Quick, hop on the chambray trend! I know the shirts are cozy, so I can only imagine how soft and wonderful this duvet would feel.
The Emily + Meritt Icon Needlepoint Pillow, Heart - $49.50 With bold blues taking over the room, I love the way this simple pillow still makes just the right statement. Aww, love.
Nate Berkus Foil Print Decorative Pillow, Black/Gold - $24.99 Black and gold against navy hues sounds downright dreamy, don't you think? Besides, you can never have too many pillows in the bedroom.
Pom-pom Tassel Throw, Gray Asphalt - $58 The bed topper. Pom-poms get me every time, but paired with a flint gray? This will be your kitty's (and your) favorite place to curl up.
Acrylic Bed Tray - $79.95 Breakfast in bed? This tray has it covered.
Tangent O.C. White Industrial Pinup Wall Fixture - $677.50 One for him; one for her.
Tabletop Mirror With Mallard Feet - $149 Scott and I love injecting humor into our decor. Put on your lipstick with a smile!
Upholstered Parker X-Bench, Indigo Pinstripe Cotton - $695 This navy and white ticking-stripe X-bench is such a unique blend of classic and contemporary.
Flamingo Wallpaper - $198 This flamingo wallpaper is perfectly quirky, and it sure would play nice on an accent wall against a navy-blue headboard.
Hague Blue Paint Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball has quickly become Scott's and my favorite shade of navy. When the light hits it just right, well, magic happens.
Hemnes Chest of 8 Drawers, Blue - GBP 180 Just think: white walls, a gilded gold mirror and this hunky blue dresser — with plenty of storage for the both of you.
Build-Your-Own Enamelware Bowl Collection, Cobalt Blue - $104 I like the idea of using small bowls and plates to hold rings, earrings and wallets in the bedroom. Not only is this cobalt enamel bowl beautiful on its own, but it would make a practical dish to keep on your nightstand too.
Trellis Sisal Rug - $499 A neutral sisal rug would allow your bedroom's furniture to be the star of the show. Whether you have patterned wallpaper or a velvety sitting chair, allow this to anchor the scene.
Indigo Geo Cotton Dhurrie - $39 Or just go for it! This punchy rug would be a vibrant way to inject blues into the bedroom. Complement it with a slick white bed frame and a pair of midcentury dressers.
