Dreaming in Color: 10 Beautiful Blue Bedrooms

Last week we looked at some gorgeous green bedrooms on Houzz; this week we turn to blue. Soft blues with a touch of green or gray remind us of the sea and sky and tend to bring in a tranquil vibe. Bolder blues such as aqua, turquoise and cobalt have a fun, youthful vibrancy and work well in modern bedrooms. Deep, dark shades of navy are cool and elegant — and play well with almost any other color and with all styles of decor.

Check out 10 transcendent blue bedrooms on Houzz along with some tips for how to use blue in your own bedroom.

Go minimalist without the starkness by painting a wall or the ceiling in your bedroom a soft icy blue. I like using white and blue hues in rooms that have wood floors and furniture. The wood tones add warmth and a nice contrast to the palette. It's clean, crisp and cool, yet inviting and comfortable.

Hotel Collection Bedding, Modern Current I love this particular blue hue — a not-quite-navy blue that has a bit of gray to tone it down, despite how deep it is. It reminds me of half-faded blue jeans and works well as a neutral background. This is a color that can take dashes of other bolder colors, similar to how you can pair any colored T-shirt with your favorite jeans.

This is a brilliant palette for a bedroom set in a city dwelling. The sky blue wall covering softens the impact of the hard lines and surfaces, and the bit of sunny yellow on the window wall brightens up the space. The room is colorful but still has a calming vibe.

Can't settle on just one favorite blue hue? Play with a range of blue shades for a colorful focal point in a room. Paint a piece of furniture or shelving, or go for an interesting graphic on the wall.

A cool bedroom deserves to be clad in a cool blue. Most wood tones tend to read as orange, and because blue and orange are opposites on the color wheel, blue is a great choice to showcase interesting wood-clad details.

When using a bright, bold paint color in a bedroom, I tend to limit it to a single accent wall. The headboard wall usually makes a nice focal point in the space, so that's a good choice for receiving the eye-catching color.

If you prefer all four bedroom walls be clad in the same blue, select a softer, more toned-down hue such as this gray-blue. You'll get a soothing space that's perfect for slumbering.

This bolder turquoise is a fun color for a teen's room. And it's super easy to swap this out for another color once her or his taste changes.

Here's a smart way to add color yet keep it toned down in a bedroom — paint part of the wall with your chosen blue hue and keep the remainder white or light-colored. This lets you inject a shade that might be too overwhelming if it covered all four walls.

A soft aqua mixed with warm neutrals always invokes the beach for me and makes me feel instantly relaxed.
