In this age of Internet dating, think of Houzz as a matchmaker for your home — ready to introduce your property to the designer, architect or landscape designer of its dreams.
You can find professionals through the Houzz directory, but another good way is by simply starting with the photos you love on the site. With more than 2 million pictures to choose from, you’re sure to find a project — and a pro — that suits your style.
How to Find a Pro Through the Photos on Houzz
Since few of us have time to look at 2 million pictures, you may want to start by narrowing your focus to professionals in your area.
Select Browse Rooms at the top of any page, then click All Rooms & Styles. The next page you see will have a column of text on the left side that will help you focus your search.
Under Location click the arrow to the right of Any Metro Area and choose the locale closest to you.
Filter by room. If you are looking for a design pro to work on a specific room, go to the Room heading on the left and click on the name of that room.
If you want a pro to work on your whole house, try clicking categories like Living Room, Kitchen or Exterior. These spaces will likely tell you much about the pro's design sensibilities.
Filter by style. To narrow the field even more, choose the design style that appeals to you.
Explore a few categories. You may think of yourself as a traditional-style person, but you may also love some interiors labeled eclectic or transitional.
You can also enter the appropriate terms in the search bar at the top of any page on Houzz. The search box allows you to search photos with multiple terms by using the plus sign. To find all the galley kitchens on the site, for instance, you could type "+galley +kitchens" in the search box. See more tips for using the Houzz search box
See who designed your favorite rooms. If you really like a home, see who designed it. You'll find the firm's name next to the photo. Click the name to go to the company's Houzz profile, which will include contact information, photos of completed projects and reviews by former clients.
Houzz’s listings of design professionals offer another way to find the right pro. Just click on Find Local Pros at the top of any page, then enter your location and the type of professional you’re looking for.
Expand your search to nearby cities if you like or don’t limit the location at all. With Houzz ideabooks, email, fax machines and mobile apps, it’s not unusual to work with a designer or architect hundreds or even thousands of miles away.
