Greg and Nancy Smith begin decorating their home a month in advance for their annual Halloween fete. With a guest list of about 150 people, this Poland, Ohio, couple goes all out to cover nearly every inch of their house with decorative bats, cobwebs, gauze and ghouls. While such an undertaking isn't for the squeamish, planning the year's scheme is greatly entertaining for those involved. "Each room has its own theme," says Ryan Csepeggi, a family friend and coplanner. Together the Smiths and Csepeggi develop narratives for each room and decorate to tell the story. As a result, each space is transformed — and so are those who dare to enter.
