My Houzz: Mediterranean Views Star in a Tel Aviv High-Rise

When you've got a view of the deep blue Mediterranean Sea and two of Tel Aviv's most recognizable pieces of modern architecture, there's a tendency to keep your interiors clean and neutral. That's the approach designer Scott Talmon took with the high-rise apartment in Israel that he shares with his life partner, Adi Cohen. Despite everything being relatively new when they moved in, "not all of it worked for us," says Talmon, who streamlined things to make way for the views, rarely deviating from crisp whites or subtle grays and light blues.
Houzz at a Glance
Who lives here: Scott Talmon, Adi Cohen and their French bulldog, Brian
Location: Tel Aviv, Israel
Size: 1,500 square feet; 1 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, 2 small offices
Talmon loves light blue and the texture of velvet. He found both in a set of 1960s armchairs with their original upholstery. The natural light highlights the texture of the dark grass cloth wallpaper.
Table lamp: Owl, West Elm
Philippe Starck's iconic Yoo buildings make a stunning backdrop for the modern living room.
White Formica-finished cabinets and a raised island bar reflect the sea. Talmon left the windows bare "to feel as one with a stunning view of the blue Mediterranean," he says.
Countertop: Caesarstone; flooring: porcelain tile
Talmon stores his wine collection in an antique closet. He uses magnetic letters on the metal front door to create messages for visitors.
Bamboo bowl: Estúdio Campana
A hallway to the left of the wine bar leads to the home offices. The main bedroom is to the left of the stainless steel refrigerator in the previous photo.
Talmon prefers a light and modern style; Cohen's style is more traditional. He chose all of this Renaissance-style furniture for his home office, which doubles as a guest room.
Talmon's office is bright and minimalist. The stacked shelves double as benches or a coffee table.
Desk: Linnmon/Finnvard, Ikea; shelves: Tollman's
To make the bathroom larger, Talmon, who's taller than 6 feet, had the wall of the adjacent laundry room moved. This allowed him to build a larger walk-in shower.
Gray moldings anchor the bedroom and make it feel cozier. The couple came up with this phrase and worked with Tifa Arts to have it printed on white wood. "I really like typography and wanted something that would be both masculine and subdued," Talmon says.
Wall paint: Quarry Pebble; molding paint: Silhouette Grey, both by Tambour
After running out of wall tiles in the guest bathroom, Talmon painted the upper wall and ceiling black to match the floor and vanity. The art piece once hung in Talmon's parents' bathroom.
Ceiling paint: Flint Black, Tambour
The living room leads to this cozy ipe wood balcony, with stunning views of Starck's Yoo buildings.
Talmon relaxes in his office on an armchair he designed with Cohen.
