Guest Picks: 1 Wallpaper, 5 Stunning Foyer Designs
Foyers are such a great decorating opportunity. If you are lucky to have a foyer or any kind of defined entry space in your home, you have a chance to set a first impression with a little vignette of pieces that speak to your style. I love using a combination of wallpaper, a mirror, a pair of stools and a gorgeous light fixture (and console table if there's room).
Foyers are usually great spots for wallpaper because the wall space is limited (unless your house is large — lucky you!), so you don't bust the budget on a favorite paper. Mirrors are functional for you as you step out of your house and for guests as they enter, not to mention their light-reflecting quality that is useful anywhere. Stools provide a great perch for putting that leash on your pup or taking off your shoes after a particularly muddy walk. And a statement light fixture brings eyes up and tells visitors that very stylish people live in your home.
I thought it would be fun to take one of my favorite wallpapers, Parapluie by Scalamandre, and pair it with different elements of this "foyer formula" to create five very different looks! — Daniela from Aesthetic Oiseau
Parapluie WP88216-001 Wallpaper, Ivory/Beige on Pearl Sand - $111.30 » Naturally Inviting
Let's start with Scalamandre's Parapluie wallpaper in a pearly ivory tone. If you are a lover of neutrals, this paper is so soft and sophisticated, and I think it would look best paired with golden tones and natural textures to create a monochromatic entrance.
Bone Sunburst Mirror - $269.00 » This might be my favorite mirror currently on the catalog market. I love sunburst mirrors and anything bone, so the combination in this mirror is so right up my alley. And the price is very reasonable for such a classic piece.
Sea Grass Stool - $129.00 » The natural texture of this stool plays so well against the feminine softness of the wallpaper.
Coconut Bead Spin Lantern - $1,119.00 » The organic shape of this light fixture gives it an elegance that fits right in with the wallpaper, yet its simplicity keeps it feeling down to earth and not over the top.
Parapluie WP88216-002 Wallpaper, Ivory/Pewter on Pearl Gold - $111.30 » Graphic Greeting
I think yellow makes a great backdrop for graphic pops of black and white. The gray tones of this version of Parapluie play well into that color scheme. I could see this paper working for someone with more of a modern aesthetic.
'Lotus' Mirror - $1,150.00 » Did I say the bone mirror was my current catalog favorite? This one is pretty incredible too. The frilly silhouette is tempered by the glossy white finish that makes it feel modern and crisp. It would look absolutely amazing against the yellow.
Safavieh Dante X-bench Taupe Gray Ottoman - $210.99 » I love a classic X-bench in any scenario, but I especially love how the gray tone picks up the gray in the wallpaper. Plus, the nailhead trim gives the vignette a shiny glamour.
Greek Key Ceiling Mount - $199.00 » Finally, a good-looking flush-mount light fixture! I am so happy to see retailers bringing pretty ceiling lighting to the marketplace. The classic Greek key pattern is the perfect accent for the yellow paper, and it creates that sharp pop when contrasted with the white mirror.
Parapluie WP88216-003 Wallpaper, Bisque/Tan on Pearl Red - $111.30 » Elegant Entry
Parapluie in red is for my lovers of rich, traditional interiors. In red the wallpaper takes on a very regal quality that I madly adore when paired with blue — an elegant nod to Americana.
'Sapphire' Mirror - $995.00 » Woah. Glossy cobalt blue gets a slick brass trim in this phenomenal mirror. It's not for the faint of heart, but boy, does it make a stunning statement, especially against the red wallpaper.
Blue and White Kylin Chinese Porcelain Stool - $144.99 » This traditional blue and white porcelain garden stool is such a good fit with this vignette, playing off the chinoiserie themes in the wallpaper and mirror. You will never regret a blue and white porcelain stool because they can seamlessly move from room to room and complement virtually any decor.
Traditional Urban Semi-flush Ceiling Light - $299.00 » This golden light fixture provides some calm and order to this exuberant display. Its clean lines are relaxing to the eye and provide a nice grounding element for the entrance.
Parapluie WP88216-005 Wallpaper, Ivory/Green on Pearl Grass - $111.30 » Playful Passageway
Try Parapluie in the green colorway for a particularly playful foyer. I love using pink and green together in a young space, either for a younger family or for kids.
Iron Uttermost Ablenay Hand-forged Frame Mirror - $191.91 » This mirror is so sweet. I love its whimsical lines, and the golden tones will be beautiful against the deep green of the wallpaper.
Moroccan Leather Pink Pouf by Bazar Berber - $157.91 » This pink pouf will be a bright, preppy statement against the green paper. I think pink is a universally flattering tone and a wonderful color to use to welcome people into your home.
Bamboo Lantern - $148.00 » Keeping with the sweet and whimsical theme of this combination, this petite bamboo chandelier is a fantastic accent for the green wallpaper and will make a delightful, quiet statement overhead.
Parapluie WP88216-004 Wallpaper, Ivory/Blue on Pearl Wedgwood - $111.30 » Cool Welcome
Last but not least is this soft and inviting blue version of Parapluie. I'm having a French blue/periwinkle moment in my decorating, and this paper is exactly the hue I'm loving. I think it would look fantastic paired with cool elements in silvery tones.
Antiqued Moroccan Mirror - $259.00 » OK, I'm obsessed with mirrors. This ideabook is making me realize that I want all of these, especially this one with its Moroccan silhouette and simple metallic frame. I love how functional its big expanse of mirror would be in an entryway.
Moroccan Stool, Spanish Sage - $129.00 » This little stool would be a great perch, and the cool minty-ivory tone would be a great hue against the blue. I could see this combination working beautifully in a breezy, upscale beach house.
Moravian Star Ceiling Light, Nickel - $189.00 » Moravian star fixtures are classics, and I love the shadows they create on ceilings. This is one light fixture that I tend to prefer in silvery tones. The star motif also adds to the shine and shimmer factor in this version of the foyer.
